Fascinated by the intricacies of the geometry involved in the creation of Islamic patterns, I dove into researching the methods in which this was done. I developed a vector design mixing and matching some of these formulas and came up with a design unique to me.
Traditionally, this geometric pattern-making is a way in which the artist explores the infinite. With a laser cutter, I created a cube of these complicated panels that face all directions. To make it into a lamp, I designed a model for the base and had it 3-D printed in glow-in-the-dark plastic. Using a basic light socket with a switch, I combined all three elements into this tabletop lamp that projects in all directions the delicate and infinite patterns held in each panel.
